Every hamburger I cook for my family at home includes this simple Burger Seasoning recipe! I’ve combined a few herbs and spices to create a savory and smokey flavor. I simply mix it with my ground beef to form burger patties, then top with different things depending on what each family member loves most. This combo of spices is an easy way that I make burgers at home extra special.

Easy Burger Seasoning Recipe

I created this spice blend because I wanted something simple, savory, and a little smoky to really elevate my homemade burgers. It’s become my go-to for seasoning patties—it just brings out the best in the meat and adds that extra layer of flavor I love.

No matter how I’m making burgers, I always start with salt and pepper to highlight the natural flavor of the meat. Then I sprinkle on this blend, especially when I’m using ground beef, but it works just as well on chicken or turkey burgers too.

Of course, seasoning isn’t the only way I like to amp up the flavor. A good burger sauce added after cooking can take things to the next level—and I almost always finish mine with a generous drizzle.

Variations

I have used this seasoning blend with all kinds of burgers. Here are some of my favorites that have worked really well for my family.

  • For a Mediterranean burger (yes, this seasoning works with chicken and turkey burgers too!), I replaced the smoked paprika with regular paprika, and add some dried thyme, rosemary, and lemon zest.
  • For a Southwestern burger , I swapped the smoked paprika for chipotle powder, and added some ground cumin, chili powder, and lime zest.
  • For a BBQ burger (a favorite with my kids), I mixed in some brown sugar and ground mustard.
  • For mushroom burgers (what my husband always requests), I mixed in some powdered shiitake mushrooms or mushroom seasoning.
  • For a spicy seasoning blend, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes!

How to Store

I store burger seasoning in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 months for best quality. When we are making burgers for a crowd, I double or triple the recipe and then store it in my spice cabinet along with all of my other homemade spice blends .

Serving Suggestions

I’ve used this seasoning on everything from beef and chicken burgers to taco meat !—it adds such a great depth of flavor every time. It’s also delicious sprinkled over grilled corn , crispy tater tots , or even tossed with sautéed veggies for a quick flavor boost. Round out the meal with some potato skin bites on the side, and don’t forget a slice of banana pudding cheesecake for dessert—it’s the perfect finish!
