Star Wars Cake Pops

So I realize these Princess Leia Oreo Truffles are way out of the norm of what I usually post here on The Cookie Rookie, but I saw the preview for the new Star Wars movie coming out this month, and wanted to get creative!

These Princess Leia Oreo truffles are so cute and super easy to make. Most importantly, they taste amazing. So what do you get when you develop a treat that is super easy, super tasty, and super cute? MY KIND OF RECIPE.

For the base Oreo Truffle recipe, I borrowed from the chocolate master, Joan, from Chocolate Chocolate and More. Some of you might know that Joan passed away unexpectedly last month. She was such a gift to the blogging community, helping everyone she met. If you’re ever in need of a dessert recipe to knock the socks off of ANYONE, her site is the absolute best. You can see the base truffle recipe HERE .

May the force be with you!

Why You’ll Love this Truffle Recipe:

  • Perfect for any occasion: These are obviously perfect for a treat on May 4th, but they are a perfect addition for any Star Wars fan’s birthday.
  • Great for all ages : Kids and adults both adore these!
  • So fun! These are so fun to make and I love seeing faces light up when they are served. And, let’s face it, no one will say no to chocolate !

Trademark Note : In the spirit of transparency, I want to note that some of these ingredients are trademarked products. Oreos and Rolos are proprietary brands that I want to acknowledge and give credit to.

How to Make Princess Leia Oreo truffles

How long do they keep?

Once you have made your truffles and they are set, place them into an airtight container and keep refrigerated. They will keep well for up to a week, but I doubt they will last that long!

Can you freeze them?

Yes! They freeze really well! Place them into a container (not touching!) and freeze them for up to 2 months. Remove them from the freezer 30 minutes before serving so that they soften a little.

Recipe Variations

You can make these Princess Leia Oreo truffles with any flavor Oreos you like. I used original, but all will work great. Instead of Rolos, you could also use Maltesers.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Spray your hands with non-stick spray when rolling the truffles as they will be very sticky.
  • Allow the chocolate to set fully between each chocolate dip or the colors will drip and bleed into each other.
  • Keep refrigerated and enjoy!

More Chocolate Treats

  • Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • Chocolate Chunk Banana Muffins
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Blossoms
  • Chocolate Donut Holes

Ingredients1x2x3x

  • ▢ 30 Oreo cookies 339 grams
  • ▢ 4 ounces low-fat cream cheese 114 grams, cold (½ brick)
  • ▢ 6 ounces white chocolate melting wafers 170 grams (or Vanilla Almond Bark)
  • ▢ 5 ounces dark or milk chocolate melting wafers 142 grams (or good quality chocolate chips)
  • ▢ ¼ cup chocolate icing 31 grams, homemade or store-bought (to act as glue)
  • ▢ 24 Rolo candies 144 grams
  • ▢ Edible markers to make the eyes and lips

Instructions

  • Line a large baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.
  • In a food processor or strong blender, pulse the Oreos until they’re finely chopped. Add the cream cheese and pulse until the entire mixture is creamed together. 30 Oreo cookies, 4 ounces low-fat cream cheese
  • Place the mixture in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes, or until it is a bit firmer and cold.
  • Roll the truffle mixture into balls and place them on the baking sheet. (TIP: To help with this process, I sprayed my hands with nonstick spray. This helped in rolling without them being super sticky).
  • Place the truffles in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, until firm. After removing them from the refrigerator, you can re-roll them to make them more the shape you want if they have depressed at all.
  • Heat the white chocolate or almond bark in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Be careful not to burn the chocolate. 6 ounces white chocolate melting wafers
  • Dip each truffle into the white chocolate fully and then place it on the baking sheet again. Place in the refrigerator for another 20 minutes to set the chocolate/bark.
  • Heat the milk or dark chocolate in the microwave the same way as before, stirring in between and being careful not to burn. 5 ounces dark or milk chocolate melting wafers
  • Dip each side of each truffle into the chocolate, making the “hair line”. If it works better you can use a fork for this part, dipping each side and then placing the truffle back on the wax paper.
  • Again let the truffles rest in the fridge for 20 minutes to set the chocolate.
  • Take each truffle and place a bit of icing on each side, where you want Leia’s “hair buns” to go. Attach a Rolo to each side and place back on the wax paper. ¼ cup chocolate icing, 24 Rolo candies
  • Again allow them to sit in the refrigerator to set the icing. (tedious, but cuteness is upon us!)
  • Using edible markers, draw a face on each truffle. I did simple dots for eyes and a small heart for the mouth. Edible markers

Equipment

  • Kitchen Scale (optional)
  • Baking Sheet
  • Food Processor OR
  • High Powered Blender

Essential Grocery List

It’s so helpful to have a basic grocery list to help me remember which foods to buy at the store. This food shopping list is my go-to!

It’s better to stock up on things like grains, seasonings and spices, baking essentials, oils, condiments, canned and frozen foods, etc. so I can just grab them when I need them. These things have a long shelf life , so I keep them in my kitchen for convenience.

However, I do have to go to the supermarket sometimes, and there’s a way to make that trip easy and hassle-free: I keep a grocery list! If I go in blindly, I’ll leave with things I don’t need, and nothing that actually helps me prepare a good meal.

In the list below, I’ve compiled everything I always have on my stock-up grocery list.

I’ve got you covered! I created an easy grocery list filled with all of the essentials. Plus there’s a free printable version that you can take with you to the grocery store. It has everything you need to stock your pantry, your freezer, and your refrigerator.
