I’m all about fruity margaritas in summer and my Watermelon Margaritas are the ultimate summer cocktail! I make it with fresh watermelon, tequila and watermelon Liqueur, for super refreshing and flavorful drink. There’s no better way to celebrate the season than with a watermelon cocktail!

Margaritas are my favorite cocktail and I never leave a chance to experiment with new flavors . Watermelon is one of the most loved summer fruit and making watermelon cocktails are perfect for summer days, BBQs , Cinco de Mayo , and all the warm-weather holidays you can think of.
Being health enthusiast this skinny margaritas is something that I always look forward to, I can make this margarita even without fresh watermelon (Thanks to Watermelon Liqueur). Doesn’t sounds FUN – watermelon margarita without fresh watermelon.

Fresh Watermelon Margaritas Recipe
Watermelon is the most summery food I can think of. Nothing cools you down on a hot summer day like a watermelon…except maybe a margarita ! So by combining the two into a Watermelon Margarita, you know we’ve got the best and most refreshing cocktail for summer .
I use fresh watermelon cubes and BOLS watermelon Liqueur for that vibrant pink color. This easy fresh watermelon margarita is sweet, citrusy and slightly bitter, all at once. I would say tanginess from lime, sweetness from agave and bitter-sweet flavors from liqueur, all create a perfect balance of flavors with smooth tequila.
Sipping this pink drink by the pool or on the patio is sure to make your summers even better. Drink up, stay cool, and enjoy the last days of the season with the best margaritas!
Use watermelon in salad or with my homemade cream cheese dip while it lasts.
Ingredients
- Tequila: This is the foundation of the margarita drink, so choose the best quality of tequila. Use the one you love the MOST! I use Blanco tequila.
- Lime: I always prefer freshly squeezed lime over the bottled one. Fresh lime brings the fresh citrusy aroma that blends beautifully.
- Fresh watermelon: I use fresh watermelon in my recipe.
- Agave syrup: Sweetness coming from syrup really blends all the flavors together and create a perfect sweet, salty, citrusy combination. Simple syrup or maple syrup will also work great.
- Watermelon Liqueur: I use BOLS watermelon liqueur to have that bright pink color. It is the BEST If you don’t have fresh watermelon available. Perfectly fruity, sweet, and slightly bitter in taste.
Variations & Substitutions
- Tequila is definitely the star of the recipe. You can try white tequilas something like Espolon or Casamigos.
- To make watermelon margarita towards orange-ish flavors use Grand Marnier or triple sec or Cointreau. This will bring more citrusy flavors.
- Add few mint leaves while serving to get extra refreshing feel.
- Muddle some jalapenos if you like spicy cocktail. Watermelon actually goes super tasty with spicy seasonings. Try it! Tajin seasoning is another one.
- If you don’t have access to BOLS watermelon liqueur, just completely eliminate from the recipe. Add 1/2 cup of strawberries or orange or cherries or pomegranate or tomato.
Tips For Success
- Try your best to use only fresh lime juice. But if not handy, feel free to use bottled lemon juice.
- I can’t stress enough to use the BEST tequila for margaritas. I use BLANCO in most of cocktail recipes.
- If you like sweeter cocktail, increase the quantity of agave syrup and adjust to taste. Watermelon liqueur also brings the candy sweetness, so adjust the syrup as you like.
- For a smoky margarita, I recommend using a high-quality mezcal. All you need to do is swap tequila for an equal amount of mezcal.
- If agave syrup is not your thing, swap it with honey or erthyrithol or dragon fruit sugar. Simple granular sugar will also go well with it.

How to Store
Refrigerate any leftover margarita drink for upto 3-5 days. But honestly I doubt if it’ll last long!
It is easy to whip up a big pitcher for the crowd by mixing every ingredient together quickly. Based on the number of servings, double or triple the recipe. Really, this watermelon margarita is that easy and stress-free.
Serving Suggestions
I really like to enjoy watermelon margarita as is, that means after a long day in summer, anyday. But anytime with my favorite tacos like Street Tacos , Turkey Tacos , Barbacoa Tacos , Steak Tacos , or Cod Fish Tacos . I finally revealed my love for tacos!!
Try Walking Tacos in your next pool party. I would say, this skinny watermelon margarita is pretty much good to go with any dinner recipes .
5-Star Review
“I made this last night and it was the moistest chicken we’ve ever had. A bit of crispy and the flavor was wonderful. I didn’t have buttermilk and did add lemon juice to 1% milk. I am making it again today. Thank you for this recipe.” – Dawn
